The ‘bunny burrito’ is a safe and helpful wrapping method to help restrain a rabbit when undertaking medical interventions such as critical care feeding, administering medications etc.
This method helps to make the rabbit feel more secure and also prevent them from scrambling, jerking around, scooting backwards or escaping.
You will need:
- A towel
- A flat surface
How to wrap:
- Place the towel onto a flat surface such as a table or kitchen bench
- Place the rabbit onto the towel (more to one side) and provide reassurance
- Fold the front of the towel over the rabbit’s front feet (being mindful not to do this too tight and accidentally restrict the rabbit’s breathing when the burrito is finished)
- Fold the longer side of the towel over the rabbit. You can tuck it under their abdomen or leave it looser depending on your rabbit’s needs (some rabbits don’t need a firmer wrap and are comfortable with a looser one)
- Fold the opposite shorter side up and over the rabbit’s back
- Fold the back of the towel over the rabbit’s bottom to finish the burrito
